Some Restaurants in China Have been shut for serving infant monkeys
Chinese Police have shut down two restaurants after it was found that they were serving infant monkeys and other wildlife to customers.
Two men were also arrested for poaching and killing seven endangered short-tail monkeys, including three infants.
The arrests and closures are part of a crackdown on those poaching wild animals and selling them as delicacies.
The monkeys were allegedly captured illegally on local mountains, sold to farmers’ markets, slaughtered and served in several restaurants for around 400 yuan a plate.
The restaurants sold monkey meat for $ 51.39 per dish, while monkey brains were sold for $64.23 a plate.
The crackdown on poaching will include thorough inspections of Farmers’ markets, hotels and restaurants and installations of cameras in mountains.
The illegal capture or killing of endangered species of wildlife carries a hefty sentence of no less than 10 years in prison in serious cases.
