Corporal Anthony Ogwal, the officer in charge of Abako police post in Alebtong district has appeared in court for murder.

Ogwal appeared before Richard Ssemaganda, the Lira Grade one magistrate on Wednesday, where he was charged with negligence of duty and the murder of Daniel Odongo, a former student of Buluge comprehensive secondary school.

Ssemaganda didn’t allow the accused to enter plea since his court lacks jurisdiction over the matter. He remanded him to Lira central government prison until December 23rd, 2014 when he will reappear before court for the mention of his charges.

Details of the case are that, on December 4th while at Abako trading center, Ogwal shot and severely injured Odongo. The gunshot victim breathed his last on December 5th at Alanyi health center II, where he was admitted.

Manshur Suwed, the Central North regional police spokesperson says Odongo was moving with three others when police intercepted them but Odongo decided to flee prompting police personnel on patrol to shoot at him. The deceased succumbed to severe bullet wounds.
