Crane Bank’s Free Eye Camp Attracts 700 Patients

As part of their celebrations to mark 20 years of existence, over 1000, people flocked to Kampala Parents School, to benefit from Crane Bank’s Free Eye Camp initiative that kicked off on Friday.

Sheena Ruparelia, one of the Crane Bank Directors, told Red Pepper that, instead of throwing a party to have food and drinks, they decided to give back to the community through free eye screening, surgery, and sun glasses.

“Cataracts’ is one of the problems that has cure yet many people in Uganda still suffer from it. Today, Crane Bank celebrates its 20th anniversary and instead of throwing a party we decided to support the community so, Crane Bank in partnership with Rotary Club of Kololo and Eye Care centre, we are doing pre-screening, Cataracts surgeries and many other eye-related cases,” Sheena Ruparelia said.

Sheena added that, since some people had transport problems, they organized free transport to bring them to Kampala Parents where the eye camp will run up to 23rd August, 2015.

At the opening of the eye camp, over ten Doctors, were at site to carry out the surgery and more than 20, other eye specialists. Patients came from all corners of the country, including; Gulu, Kampala, Masaka, Mpigi, Kasese, Mbarara,Rukungiri, among others.

In addition to eye surgery and pre-screening, majority of the people also enjoyed free HIV/AIDS testing, and other health consultation services.
