Cranes Beat AFCON Bound Ethiopia To Storm Quarters
Uganda Cranes are through to the quarter finals
Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Tusker cup Champions Uganda Cranes have become the first team to reach the quarter finals of the tournament after they beat Africa Cup of Nations bound Ethiopia 1 – 0 on Tuesday evening.
The Cranes found the back of the net in the tenth minute through lethal striker Brian Umony to register their place in the quarterfinals with one group game still to be played.
Bobby Williamson’s side started the game in a fast paced mode but slowed the rhythm after Umony put them ahead probably because they realized that the mission had been accomplished.
Uganda Cranes were playing without first choice goal keeper Abel Dhaira and his replacement Hamza Muwonge did not have to work hard as Uganda’s back line kept the Walya Antelopes at bay.
The two teams came into this game knowing a win for either side would secure a place in the quarter finals however Uganda Cranes proved they are the masters of CECAFA by booking their place in the next round.
Even though Uganda Cranes have registered their two results with slender 1 – o wins, there is optimism in the camp that the cup will stay home.
Uganda now heads group A with six points, Kenya which earlier in the day beat newcomers South Sudan 1 – 0 now has three points together with Ethiopia while South Sudan lie at the bottom of the group without a point.

Congratulations but I wouldn’t call Umony as lethal. This is his first Cranes goal since 2009. One goal in 3 years against a 2nd string Ethiopian team is hardly lethal. Good to see him hit the net again though. Let’s hope he makes a turn around.
