DATA POWER! Minister Musasizi Launches Entebbe Statistics House, Backs Uganda’s East Africa Bureau Bid

ENTEBBE: Uganda has thrown its hat into the ring to host the East African Statistics Bureau, with Finance Minister Henry Musasizi promising that government will do everything possible to bring the prestigious regional agency to the country.
Musasizi made the pledge on Thursday as he flagged off construction of the new Statistics House Entebbe Office Block, a mega project expected to transform Uganda into a regional hub for statistics, data innovation and professional training.
“I have taken note of the request for Uganda to host the East African Statistics Bureau. We shall explore all available options to ensure this regional agency comes to Uganda,” Musasizi declared.
The minister revealed he had a prior conversation the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Board and management on Thursday morning, where he was briefed on the Bureau’s growing role in producing the data that guides government planning, budgeting and policy decisions.
He hailed the new office block as a game changer, saying it will host cutting edge statistical training centres, innovation labs and a state-of-the-art data centre that will strengthen Uganda’s evidence-based planning.
But Musasizi also fired a warning at ROKO Construction Company. Ltd, the company contracted to build the facility.
“Uganda has suffered enough from delayed government projects. This is the ‘Kissanja No More Sleep’ era. Everyone must do their job on time. Government has released the money, and we expect quality work delivered without excuses,” he warned.
The minister said the project must be completed on schedule to ensure taxpayers get value for money and to position Uganda as a regional leader in statistics and data management.
He then officially launched the construction of the Statistics House Entebbe Office Block, describing it as a major milestone in modernising Uganda’s statistical infrastructure and boosting national development.
