Deteriorating Health Forces Mao Out Of DP Office

DP President Norbert Mao has decided to take leave as a DP president to have enough rest in preparation for 2016 general elections.

“My Doctors have advised that i rest because when i left Nairobi, i found Amuru and Busia needed me. But as 2016 shapes up, i will take rest for some time,” Mao Posted on his official Facebook page.

Mao further said that other leaders will move the party forward and he is confident everything will go on as planned.

“We have 40 leaders who will steer the party in my absence,” added Mao.

For the last few years, Mao’s health has been deteriorating.

In July last year, Mao was flown to Nairobi Hospital for treatment and was diagnosed with Pneumonia.

A few days later, Mao was rumoured to be dead but the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya rubbished the claims.

Two weeks later, Mao was discharged and returned to the country though his health has not improved steadily as expected.

Mao was the chairman Gulu and also the MP Gulu Municipality before he became Democratic Party President in 2010, he contested the 2011 elections coming third after the Forum for Democratic change Leader Kiiza Besigye.
