DTB Opens National Identification Centre


Diamond Trust Bank Uganda Ltd (DTB) has opened a payment collection point  at the National Identification & Registration Authority(NIRA) Centre in Kololo in a bid to ease the registration process for those seeking NIRA services.

According to a statement released by the bank, the move will help to save time.

“The opening of the banking facility eases the process of registration and reduces the time spent from the previous six hours to two hours. The DTB Collection Point will be open from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm,” the statement reads in part.

The DTB Managing Director, Mr. Varghese Thambi said the bank was happy to play a facilitating role to ensure that all citizens enjoyed their right of registration and recognition a factor that is key to ensuring proper planning for national development.

Hon. Ruth Kavuma, the NIRA Vice Chairperson commended DTB during the launch of the collection centre. She lauded the bank for bringing its services closer to the people and urged those that have not been registered to do so because it’s now easier and faster to undergo the process.

NIRA is a government agency charged with the mandate of registering births and deaths in the country and to develop a National Identification Register for both citizens and legal residents. NIRA is also mandated to issue national identification numbers and cards for citizens. Its vision and mission is to ensure accurate, valid and secure data with utmost integrity and to enhance growth, development and security of all people through complete Identification and Registration.
