East African University Games Get Underway

The ninth edition of the East African University games has Wednesday morning started with the opening ceremony at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Main Campus.
22 Kenyan universities are to participate in the East African University Games (EAUG) while hosts Uganda have entered 23, Tanzania nine and Rwanda one.
Universities are competing in games like Football, Athletics, Basketball, Rugby, Woodball, Handball, Volleyball, Swimming, Tennis among others while wow popular Rugby 7s has been also included in the disciplines this year.
Luwero-based Ndejje University are defending champions.
The hosts UCU have entered the highest number of athletes at 280 closely followed by Makerere (253) with all the regional Institutions bringing over 3,000 athletes at the Games sponsored by Joint Medical Stores, Centenary Bank, Movit Products Limited and Lion Assurance, Ecobank, Dfcu Bank, Rwenzori Water, AAR and St John’s Ambulance.
Courts at UCU have also been refurbished including one for handball and netball, two for tennis, three Volleyball and an equal number for basketball – all with newly fitted floodlights. Rugby will be played at Namilyango while swimming done at Kampala Parents.
