Local female volleyball powerhouses are putting final touches on their preparations for the fifth edition Ndejje Open that is slotted for this weekend in Luwero campus of Ndejje University.

Ndejje Elites and Nkumba women are top candidates with both being the face of women volleyball in the past four to five years.

Ndejje will be boosted by the return of their senior players Saidat Nnungi, Christine Alupo and Maureen Mwamula who are back from national duty.

Nkumba have won the national league four times in the last five years while Ndejje are the defending champions.

Last year alone, Nkumba won the Makerere Open (clubs category) and the KIU Open (clubs and institutions). Ndejje on the other hand defeated Nkumba to win the Ndejje Open (clubs and institution titles) as well as the the Dr Aporu Okol Memorial International.

And Ndejje Elites coach Johnson Kawenyera is sure that if his charges can stop their rivals among others Nkumba, Espoir, KCCA and UCU Lady Doves.

“We have managed to correct the errors we made in Makerere and ready to defend the title.”
