Ex-Radio Presenter Kakyebezi Wins Mbarara Mayoral Race

Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi, a radio presenter with Vision Group’s Radio West is the mayor of Mbarara Municipality.
The famous Akagwe program presenter won the Mbarara mayoral race with 25239 votes beating FDC’s Stanley Katembeya who garnered only 8125 votes.
Kakyebezi won up to 90% in the new municipal divisions of Biharwe, Kakiika and Nyakayojo while in the original Divisions of Kamukuzi, Kakoba and Nyamitanga the margin was not so wide.
After casting his vote yesterday, FDC’s Katembeya complained of irregularities, citing intimidation of his agents by the army at polling stations around Makenke Barracks.
Kakyebezi won the incumbent Wilson Tumwine in the NRM primaries.
Kakyebezi’s 11,991 votes were good enough for victory against Tumwine’s 7,133 votes.
