Father of Six Sentenced to Life for Defiling Daughter

A father of six Geoffrey Rwishasha (54) has been sentenced to life imprisonment after court convicted him of aggravated defilement.
Rwishasha was sentenced on Thursday by Masaka High Court. The court was presided over by Justice Margaret Oumo Oguli.
Rwishasha had spent three years on remand at Masaka Central Prison. He was arrested in 2011 from Rakai district where it was alleged that he had been coercing his 14-year-old daughter into sex.
The minor was in primary five at the time when she fell pregnant after repeated defilement by her father.
Prosecution led by David Baxter Bakibinga informed court that Rwishasha had abused his daughter between the months of January to March 2011.
Bakibinga noted that Rwishasha had continued to force the girl into sexual acts even after she had reported to her mother his actions.
Before the sentence was delivered, Gorreth Ayebale asked court to grant Rwashasha a chance to speak out before court in which he was expected to ask for pardon.
However, the convict who looked frightened instead took a plea of guilty and asked court for leniency which was denied.
In her ruling, Oguli told court that the principal witness confessed to court that her father used to force her into sex while in garden and sometimes could sneak into her bedroom at night.
Oguli said his behaviour showed a lack of remorse. She added that Rwishasha’s behaviour had traumatized his entire family, especially his daughters and he deserved the life imprisonment sentence.
Oguli accordingly sent Rwishasha in jail for the rest of his life as per Section 129 (1) of the penal code act.
Rwishasha’s daughter now has a three year old baby from that non-consensual relationship. The daughter herself is 18-years old now.
