FUFA introduces U17 league for Premier League clubs

The football governing body in Uganda, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has introduced the U17 Juniors League for the Uganda Premier League clubs.

Eng. Moses Magogo, FUFA president, disclosed that they have engaged a full time staff to oversee the project.

“We have employed a full-time staff to manage this project,” Magogo said.

To facilitate a smooth take-off of the league which is partly funded by FIFA, the world’s soccer governing body, FUFA will among others things; pays coaches, transport the teams and provide basic useable kits.

And to curb the age cheating menace, FUFA has catered for the MRI test, “they paid for the expensive MRI test for each player to help ascertain their ages.”

They have trained U17 referees who are officiating the games and pay them.

“This is one of the many technical programs introduced in the last three years. Am proud after securing Uganda’s football future,” Magogo added.

He further revealed that the national U17 is scheduled for a four nation tournament to be hosted in Tanzania early April 2017.

Uganda’s topflight, the Azam Ugandan Premier League consists of 16-teams.
