The retired bush war fighter Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu who doubles as the President of (Alliance for National Transformation) ANT has cautioned members of People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) to desist from internal wars among leaders / supporters under coalition and aim at strengthening the opposition forces with purpose to reclaim power from the current regime.
Gen. Muntu made this call on Wednesday 30.07.2016 in Mbarara City during the launch of Ankore PFF Regional Office which was officially opened at Mbaguta Street in Mbarara City. This event was officiated by the PFF Vice Chairman Dr. Phillip Lulume Bayinga who represented the PFF Chairman Elias Lukwago.
According to Gen. Muntu, he revealed that The Democratic for Alliance (TDA) collapsed due to internal fights and disagreements among the leaders over choosing a single presidential candidate. It is noted that the internal disagreements resulted into splitting among the leaders in that coalition where the FDC withdrew from the alliance just before the 2016 election. The disagreement erupted in the coalition amidst the process of choosing someone who could would be fronted as the presidential candidate between Dr. Kiiza Besigye and John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.
Last month PFF and ANT signed an MOU to form a political coalition to challenge President Museveni.
While addressing hundreds of members of PFF from Ankore region this Wednesday at Uganda Martyrs Catholic Center in Mbarara, Gen. Muntu cautioned them that what happened to TDA in 2016 should not again happen to this alliance that has been formed between PFF and ANT.
“People out there lost hope in us according to what happened to TDA. But now is the right time we rebuild ourselves and become one to form a strong political coalition that will enable us to remove President Museveni. We need discipline and have one goal as opposition. As ANT, we have already made an agreement with PFF for a coalition, and so far we are yet to reach the people of NUP and talk to them about the coalition, but we must avoid clashes and fights within us,” said Gen. Muntu.
“Let us stick on our mission, let no one cause division amongst us in this coalition. I ask you not to engage in arguments with our enemies. Let us avoid causing wars within us,” he added.
Francis Mwijukye, the Buhweju County Member of Parliament mentioned that opposition parties are coming together to see how they form a platform to galvanize all the support and capacities to build that momentum that will take opposition side to what they have been fighting for in this country.
“As NRM people fight each other, as they kill each other in their primary elections, as they fight each other, we are coming together as entities, we are coming together as individuals, we are coming together as parties to see how we form a platform and galvanize all the support to build that momentum that will take us to what we have been fight for, fighting for freedom, fighting for change and fighting for equal opportunities in this country,” said MP Mwijukye.
