Mary Karoro Okurut, the Minister for Information, says it consists of members from the office of the President, Disaster management and refugees, Public Service, Information and National Guidance and security.

Karoro says they have already dispatched a team to Malinga’s home town in Butebo to see how they can work with the family members to work on the burial arrangements. The committee and the family are yet to agree on which church they will hold the funeral service.

Minister Malinga passed away last night around 10:00pm in his constituency of Butebo where he collapsed and upon arrival at the health centre four, he was pronounced dead.

The late Minister’s body is currently in Mulago mortuary for a postmortem to establish the actual cause of death and will stay there till Monday.

On Monday Parliament will hold a special sitting where Malinga’s body will lie in state and later in the afternoon, members of Parliament will pay their last respects in the chamber.

After the church service, the body will be transported to his ancestral home in Butebo to hold a vigil and he will be buried on Wednesday.

Musa Ecweru, the state Minister for relief and disaster preparedness, says the late Malinga was in good health until after having dinner. When he went to bed, he informed his family that he was not feeling fine and he was rushed to the health centre four where he was pronounced dead.

Minister Malinga was expected to hold meetings today in Palissa district on local government programmes.

Emmanuel Dombo, the MP for Butaleja, remembers Malinga for being very active in the back bench during the 6th Parliament as a member of the opposition party the Uganda People’s Congress.

Dombo says it is unfortunate that the former Health Minister Malinga has passed away since he had made a commitment to review the appointment of medical doctors so that it is centralized in order to improve service delivery.

Reports indicate Minister Malinga died of a heart attack which caused him to collapse.
