Ministry of Energy permanent secretary Fred Kabagambe Kaliisa has said that the government will construct a pipeline to Buloba on Mityana road for the transportation of finished products from the Albertine region.

In an interview withlocal media, Kaliisa said the pipeline will start from the refinery area in Kabaale, Hoima district to transport what he called the white products which include petrol, diesel, kerosene and jet fuel to Buloba where a depot will be constructed.

He said that government chose Buloba because it is a central place where the products can easily be transported to the markets. He adds that the idea was conceived during the study for the pipeline from Eldoret to Kampala when it was discovered that a storage facility was needed to store these products.

Kaliisa said that the government had two options which were Namanve or the West of Kampala but later figured that Namanve would be insecure and not convenient because of the many industries.

He added that government got a huge chunk of flat land in Buloba which was owned by one person which made it convenient since government wasn’t going to deal with many land owners.

Kaliisa said the feasibility study for the facility is ongoing. The pipeline to Buloba is one of the several facilities lined up for construction as Uganda nears the production phase of the oil resource.

Bidding for the construction of the oil refinery in Hoima is underway, a pipeline to Mombasa will also be constructed and at least one other refinery to transport crude from the oil wells to the refinery.
