Hassan Waswa Dropped From Cranes Squad as Micho Looks forward to Saturday

Hassan Wasswa has been in and out of the national team due to little club football.

The Uganda Cranes Head Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has dropped two experienced players ahead of the team’s crucial Group J 2014 World Cup qualifier against Liberia on Saturday.

the two are among a long list of players who have been booted ahead of the crucial game.

After the humiliating 3-0 loss to Libya in Tripoli last Saturday, the Serbian said he would ring changes on return. Musa Mudde, who features for Simba Sc in Tanzania and former Turkey based defensive midfielder Hassan Wasswa, have been dropped. Wasswa was in the KCCA team that won the FUFA Super League this season.

Micho told Redpepper that the duo was not fit.

Also dropped is the pair of Israel Emuge who plays for Gor Mahia in Kenya and Geoffrey Bukenya from Erbil in Iraq, who had a bad day against Libya. The two defenders were making a return to the national team but they failed to convince the new Coach.

The other players dropped include; Herman Wasswa, Savio Kabugo, Habib Kavuma, Mike Sserumaga and US based Mike Azira. The Coach said he is going to work closely with the remaining players to map out a plan that will yield a positive result on Saturday.

Skipper Andy Mwesigwa who plies his trade in Kazakhstan with Ordabasy FC is already in the country and was expected to train with the rest of the team today.

In a related development, experienced Ghanaian referee Adam Cordier has been appointed to handle the Group J 2014 World Cup qualifier between Uganda Cranes and Liberia on June 8.

The World football governing body, FIFA, also appointed other officials from Ghana Issa Yaya, Joel Mbaidemje and Biani Idrissi as the fourth official.
