Police has deployed at the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC offices on Hamura House in Kabale municipality along Kabale-Katuna road. Heavily armed anti riot police personnel took strategic positions around the FDC offices this morning at around ahead of the hearing of the bail application of Mubarak Munyagwa, the Kawempe Divisional Mayor at Kabale’s Magistrates court. Munyagwa is facing charges of inciting violence, damaging a police van and injuring four cops together with Ingrid Turinawe, the FDC women league chairperson and Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Lord Mayor.

Our reporter has also seen armored vehicles; water cannons and cops on motorized and foot, patrol streets in Kabale town. Ely Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson says the deployment is aimed at foiling FDC officials and their supporters from holding a procession through the main street after the court session. He claims that they have received credible intelligence that the opposition members are planning to cause chaos as the three politicians appear before court.

Reports from FDC have indicated that Kiiza Besigye, the former leader of the party is already in Kabale. However, our reporter couldn’t independently verify the claims. Roland Mugume Kaginda, the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament has faulted police for blocking opposition politicians from travelling to Kabale district. Kaginda wants police to vacate their officers saying that they are scaring away their visitors. Despite the heavy police deployment in Kabale town, business is going on as usual.
