IMPUNITY! Family drags UPDF boss, Cops to State House over alleged land grabbing

The family of late Erukana Kuwe’s estate foundation has dragged a Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) officer and police officers attached to Wakiso division to State House on allegations of conniving with serial grabbers to allegedly steal their land.
The land in question is located in Wakiso Block 306, plots 2612 and 6143 at Bira-Kireka in Wakiso district and it is situated on 35 Acres.
In a letter dated 18th October, 2021 and seen by this Newspaper, Brig Gen Moses Shaban Lukyamuzi, the head of presidential task force on land matters informs Wakiso district RDC, Justine Mbabazi that their office had received a complaint from the family and administrators to the late Kuwe’s estate on the alleged land grabbing attempts and fingers were pointed at Maj Kassimu Bainomugisha attached to Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
Gen Moses also informs the RDC that by deploying soldiers on the contested land, Maj Kassimu is in contempt of a court order—a temporary injunction was issued against him by the High Court of Uganda Land Division restraining him from carrying out any development.
Gen Moses therefore instructed the RDC to convene a meeting and ensure that he resolves the issue since it falls under his jurisdiction.
However, allegations are that Maj Kassimu reigned over some fearful [sic] police officers attached to Wakiso division and have since forcefully taken the land and even constructed houses there replacing the family’s trees and crops.
Allegations are that some cops could be beneficiaries of the land in question.
IGP PETITIONED
The family also wrote to IGP Martin Ochola explaining how Wakiso police officers have adamantly refused to execute Court orders restraining Maj Kassimu from encroaching on their land. In a letter dated 19th January, 2022, IGP Ochola directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Department to immediately investigate the matter and give him a conclusive report.
It is alleged that there is an untouchable gang in Bira-Kireka which colludes with security to protect land interests of people like Kassimu. Maj Kassimu could not be reached for a comment by press time.
