Ms Ingrid Turinawe, the chairperson for Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) women league, has sued the police for allegedly squeezing her breast while she went to attend a political rally in Nansana, Wakiso district last year.

Those sued by Ingrid include Mr Felix Andrew Kaweesi, the commander Kampala metropolitan and the Attorney General, Peter Nyombi.

Mr Kaweesi has been sued in his capacity as an individual for being the most senior officer on that fateful day of April 20th 2012, who commanded others and squeezed her breasts in the process.

The matter has been filed before the High Court in Kampala through her lawyers of Rwakafuuzi and Co advocates.

In her complaint, the FDC iron lady is demanding for over Shs560 million as in damages saying the brutal action by the police embarrassed her before so many people in Nansana who watched her being harassed, and also her five children and husband.

She further says that rude this act by the police was viewed on television stations, internet among others.

Breaking the damages down, she is seeking for Shs300 million as punitive damages and compensation for her vandalized car, Shs200 million as general damages, Shs30 million as breach of her right to liberty and another Shs30 million as punitive damages.

She is also seeking court directing that the male police officer who continuously pulled and squeezed her breast be brought to court.

She is also further asking court to make orders for the male police officer who seized her arms and legs in an attempt to undress her to be brought to court plus being dismissed from the police force.

This act by the police caused a public outcry with some two women members of concerned citizens pressure group, storming CPS half naked in protest.

According to court records, Ingrid’s woes on that fateful day begun when she drove to Nansana Town Council to join other opposition politicians for a rally.

The opposition politicians including the Kampala Lord Mayor; Erias Lukwago, were set to launch a political pressure called For God and My Country (4GC).

Ms Ingrid claims that when she was about to reach the venue for the rally (about a kilometer away), she was approached by a group of police officers numbering over 40.

She says when she confronted them, they explained to her that she would not allowed to attend the rally as it was unlawful.

She says that in the process of arguing, a male police officer grabbed her in an attempt to forcefully get her out of her car and grabbed her left breast with all bitterness, hostility and that he could gather and enjoy the breast.

Court records further show that another male police officer grabbed her legs and arms in an attempt to undress her.

She was finally overpowered and pulled out of her car, bundled on a police van and driven to Kawempe police station where she was asked to make a statement.

She was only released after an intervention of Lukwago and Kyadondo East MP Ibrahim Semujju.

Court is yet to summon the Attorney general and Mr Kaweesi to file in their defense before a hearing date can be fixed.

The case file has been allocated to Justice Elizabeth Musoke.

  1. If Justice Musoke has no balls then you can forget the case. There are very people in public office who can stomach the truth and make a ruling without fear or favor.

  2. I think the police is losing credibility due to some unprofessional fellows in the force. Some did not actually merit to join the force they joined it as a last resort and they had some relatives who helped them to join out coz they were jobless. Check their intelligence, discipline, upbringing or family background before enrolling for any civil job that requires dealing with the public. Imagine, if those men found Ingrid in a dark place, they might have raped her.

  3. It Takes Long to hear cases from the Opposition side and when it is the opposition in the what GOVERNMENT CALLS WRONG THEY HURRY TO PROCEED WITH THE case in Uganda.

  4. jack
what the police did was really dehumanizing. so go ahead with your case without looking back on some of the sycophants of the government who are paid for brutalizing Ugandans for no good reasons
