Kasewu Misses All Star Team

The Kyambogo native could be that hot-cold-hot player but Riham Warrior’s Mr Reliable Ronnie Kasewu has ever been named on the Rookie team, all Defensive and season MVP among others but Kasewu could not make the 24-man team of Ugandan players to take on foreign players.

Kasewu’s role in Warriors revamp at the end of the 2013 season first round was almost impeachable. But the 2013 Airtel National Basketball League (ANBL) All-Star Game starting lineups and reserves are finalized and such a player lost his booth. Barring an injury replacement for 24 selected players, there will be no changes come July 26 when the games tip off.

Isaac Afidra (R) has also been included in the all star squad

It seems every season there are some snubs that cause discourse amongst ANBL junkies, but this year, there are also a few stalwarts who finally had their long-standing streaks of appearances snapped.

Paul Odongo (Power), Jonathan Otim (Ndejje), Boniface Okello (UCU) and Isaac Kamya (Charging Rhinos) are some of the big names that join Kasewu and will be missed at the midseason event in MTN Arena Lugogo. Lady stars like Sylvia Nakazibwe (A-1), Suzan Amito (KIU), Francis Nabulobi (UCU) and Ruth Nakitto (KIU) also didn’t make the cut.

With the first round of the Airtel sponsored League (NBL) coming to an end on Wednesday, stars like Eddie Kateregga, Francis Kasekende and Isaac Afidra who have been on the fringes of the national side recently have been called up to the All Star squad with the national team in mind. The foreign teams will be coached by Henry Mwinuka for the men while Jeff Omondi will handle the ladies’ team.

The game All Star game is scheduled to be played this Friday at YMCA 2013 FUBA All Star teams
