The two officers are John Mary Asimwe, the regional officer in charge of East Busoga region and Josephat Mbonigabo, in charge of Mayuge Central Police Station.

The two were suspend following a meeting in the district chaired by Police Chief Kale Kayihura yesterday.

Kayihura, accused the two police officers of failing to investigate and produce investigation report on several murders in the region.

Reports indicate that over five people have been gunned down in Mayuge district in the last ten months but none of the murders have been investigated successfully.

The Police Chief pitched camp in the area over the weekend after the murder of Shia Muslim cleric Sheikh Dr Abdul Qadir Muwanga at his home in Mayuge District on Christmas day.

The two officers are accused of failing to investigate the murder of a security operative Bakari Isiko, who was gunned down early last month, at a shop along Kaliro road in Iganga Municipality.

They are also accused of failing to arrest suspects involved in the murder of two other people in Namayingo district, early this year.

Kayihura said the two police officers had failed to execute their duties in investigating the murder of a security guard at Bugade SAACO offices in Mayuge town council last month.

Two people arrested in relation to the murder of the security guard were later released under unclear circumstances.

The regional police commander East Busoga, Moses Muluya said the two police officers will only be recalled to take over their offices in case investigations into the matter are complete.
