KCC, Express look to bridge gap

IMG_0687With leaders Vipers not in action until Friday, Uganda Premier League (UPL) giants KCC and Express will look to bridge the gap at the top when round one of Match Day 11 takes centre stage on Tuesday.

Four games are lined up across Kampala and surrounding venues with KCC hosting Bul at Lugogo and Express travelling to take on Police at Kavumba.

Sixth-placed URA, who are the league’s top-scorers with 20 goals, make the trip to Mityana to face bottom side Rwenshama looking to forge a more consistent winning run having drawn two of their last three games.

The 4-0 thrashing of Kira Young in their last outing will definitely have provided enough launch pad for that.

Talking Kira, they will hope to stop the rot that has seen them lose five of their 10 games when they host Soana.

They, however, come up against a Soana side buoyed by their 2-0 victory over Sadolin Paints last Friday, which was their first win in 10 attempts.

But it is the action involving defending champions KCC and Express at Lugogo and Kavumba respectively that will have second-placed SC Villa and Vipers look on with interest.

Currently third and a point behind SC Villa, who are on 22, KCC will look to move to within two points of leaders Vipers should they fashion victory off fifth-placed Bul.

The game will also see Adballah Mubiru take charge of his second game as KCC coach since replacing George Nsimbe last week.

The Lugogo-based side come into the tie looking to return to winning ways having dropped their first points in six games with the goalless draw with Express last Friday.

But they come up against a Bul side with the joint best defensive run in the league having conceded three goals in 10 games.

Bul will, however, be without first choice left back Hakim Magombe and defender George Kayondo, while midfielder Farouk Osama is doubtful.

KCC winger Brian Majwega is expected to return to the squad after missing the previous game through a thigh injury while forward Michael Birungi, substituted with a foot injury in the game against Express, and defender Richard Kassaga are doubts for the hosts.

In Kavumba, Express will hope to continue Police’s poor fortunes the security side having not won a game in their last five.

The Red Eagles will come within three points of leaders Vipers should they win, while Police will have recorded their fifth win in 11 games since the 3-1 victory over Sadolin two months ago, should they manage the feat.
