El Merriekh has won two CECAFA Club championship titles (1986 & 1994) while KCC FC has managed one in 1978.

Both sides will be meeting for the third time this year. The two sides met over two legs early in this year with KCC FC winning 2-0 in Khartoum and then El Merriekh revenging a with 2-1 victory at Namboole. Coach George Best Nsimbe thus has his work cut out in the second match of the day with his championship winning goalie Jamal Salim going to face the Lugogo side for the first time since joining the Sudanese club in June this year.

“We have to respect the opposition because they came here after winning their league and the fact that they have won this championship twice before means they are a strong side,” says Nsimbe from Kigali.

“We are focused on making the final and bringing the trophy home. Tell the people back home to pray and support us” he adds.

The first match of the day will be an all Rwandan affair as Police take on APR in the early kick off in a match that is expected to bring the stadium to capacity status.

El Merreikh made it through to the semifinals after seeing off Tanzanian champions Azam FC narrowly 3-4 on penalties in a thrilling match played on Wednesday afternoon while KCCA easily beat Atlabara 3-1 in the second match.

To make it to the semis, APR narrowly saw off their opponents Rayon Sport 6-5 in yet another tough match of the Tuesday evening match while Police beat Atletico 9-8 on penalties.

The winners will take on each other in the finals set for Sunday 24 August, 2014.
