Police in Namayingo District are hunting for unknown thugs who shot dead the LC 3 chairman of Buyinja Sub County yesterday.

The deceased, David Tito Okware was shot dead at his home located in Namayingo town council last night by three men traveling on a numberless motorcycle. He was the publicity secretary for NRM party in Namayingo district.

According to a relative, the three attacked the home at around 9.30 p.m., while the family was having dinner, and asked for Okware who was seated on a plastic chair, among family members.

One of the thugs, dressed in an overall coat eventually pulled out a rifle and shot Okware four times in the stomach before riding off. Okware died moments later, the relative adds. No other family member was harmed during the attack.

Okware took over as sub county chairperson after his predecessor Stephen Dede abandoned it for a seat in parliament.

Namayingo district police commander, Fred Tayebwa said no arrests have been so far made in connection with the murder. However, he adds, police has intensified its operations to ensure that culprits are brought to book.

This adds to the long list of killings in Namayingo in the recent past.

One of them was an attack on a police man guarding the electoral commission offices located in Namayingo town council was also robbed of his gun by three armed men moving on a bodaboda motorcycle late last year.

The other was a 34 year old peasant farmer in Buswale Sub County who was shot dead by armed thugs late last year by three men moving on a bodaboda during late night hours.
