President Museveni handing over the tractor keys at Kololo grounds over the weekend

Over the weekend, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni handed over a number of tractors, tools and equipment and other machinery to different groups in Northern Uganda, Karamoja, Teso, Bunyoro and the Luwero-Rwenzururu region in fulfillment of Presidential pledges to those regions.

The equipment that includes 26 agricultural tractors, 946 ox-ploughs, 100,000 hand hoes, 8 hydraform machines, 50 grain milling machines and many others were handed over to the beneficiaries at Kololo Independence Ceremonial grounds in Kampala.

With the fact that Agriculture employs more than 85% of Ugandans, President Museveni revealed that there is a need to put in more effort to commercialize Agriculture.

President Museveni also revealed that after overcoming the rebellions in the regions of Karamoja and luwero, the issue to be tackled is to overcome poverty through generating wealth and producing food for both consumption and the market.

“With the country experiencing total peace after crushing rebellions and disarming the Karamajong cattle rustlers, the remaining challenge is to overcome household poverty through generating wealth and producing for food consumption and also for the market.”
