M7 Summons Kampala Officials over Street Vendors

By Serestino Tusingwire

President Museveni has summoned Kampala minister Betty Olive Namisango Kamya, Division Mayors, and top KCCA officials to state house to discuss the eviction of street vendors from the City.

There has been a battle of supremacy between the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and the Kampala Minister over the eviction of vendors from the city.

Kamya who says the vendors should vacate Kampala is opposed by Lukwago who believes it’s unconstitutional to evict the vendors without allocating them a specific place where they should keep operating their businesses from.

Lukwago has however vowed not to meet the president. He has branded the meeting ‘a blind date’ arguing that its main purpose is to convince Division Mayors to support the eviction, which he strongly opposes.

“After making the drastic directive, Kamya now wants Division Mayors to escort her to State House.

“Me I will not go on a blind date with the president,” Lukwago said.
