MAGOGO UNDER FIRE! FIFA Security Guru Bond Okello Tells FUFA Boss: “Time To Go Before The Game Suffers”
A fresh storm is brewing in Ugandan football after renowned sports safety and security expert Dixon Adol “Bond” Okello publicly called on FUFA President and Member of Parliament Moses Magogo to consider stepping aside from the helm of the country’s football governing body.
In a strongly worded open letter through his X handle that is already sparking debate among football stakeholders, Bond Okello praised Magogo for the milestones achieved during his tenure but argued that the time has come for a leadership transition in the interest of the game.
Okello acknowledged that under Magogo’s leadership, Uganda Cranes returned to the Africa Cup of Nations and CHAN tournaments, while Uganda also secured participation at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. He described these as significant achievements that deserve recognition and credit.
However, the football safety specialist warned that growing tensions between Magogo and some stakeholders could jeopardize future progress.
“A number of key stakeholders and government officials are no longer willing to cooperate with you,” Okello stated in the letter, arguing that the situation risks undermining preparations for upcoming major tournaments and the overall development of football in Uganda.
The appeal comes at a sensitive time for Ugandan football, with several crucial competitions on the horizon and growing discussions about the future direction of the sport.
Okello, who is a FIFA and CAF-certified stadium safety and security officer, urged all football leaders and those seeking office to place the interests of the game above personal ambitions, financial considerations, or access to funding opportunities from FIFA and CAF.
In the letter, he stressed that football should always come first, noting that relationships and alliances in sports administration can change, but the responsibility to protect and grow the game remains constant.
He argued that stepping down would allow Magogo to focus fully on his parliamentary responsibilities while creating room for renewed unity and cooperation within football administration.
The intervention is likely to add fuel to an already heated debate surrounding Magogo’s continued leadership of FUFA and corruption probe targeting his wife former Speaker AAA. Critics have for years raised various concerns about his administration and governance of football, although his supporters point to tangible achievements registered during his tenure.
For now, Bond Okello’s message is clear: celebrate the victories, protect the legacy, and consider whether a graceful exit could be the next contribution to Ugandan football.
Whether Magogo will heed that call remains the multi-million-shilling question now echoing through Uganda’s football corridors.
