Makerere University Council has accepted to immediately pay lecturers’ incentive allowances for one month.
The council chairperson, Charles Wana-Etyem, confirmed the news after a crisis meeting on Tuesday.
This came after students joined a lecturers’ strike on Tuesday.
Makerere University lecturers under their umbrella body Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) on Monday resolved to continue their strike until their nine months allowance arrears are paid.
It is not yet clear whether the lecturers have accepted to resume teaching as they patiently wait for their arrears to be fully paid.
