Masaka High Court Microphones Stop Functioning

Masaka High court is stuck with a non functioning public address system that was installed last year to ease communication during court sessions.

The Public address system was procured by the Judiciary and installed in two court rooms.

Each court room is fitted with six microphones room, a console, four speakers, a mixer and recorder. In November last year, a team of judicial officials tried to switch on the public address systems in vain.

A court clerk who declined to be named because he is not authorized to speak to the media said that public address system blew up.

He says one of the workers from the Information Technology departments in the court attempted to fix the console in vain.

Charles Kibabilire, a resident of Masaka whose land dispute is before Masak high court says, the failure of the public address system to function is a big blow.

Kibabilire says he hardly follows the court proceedings because court officials speak in a low tone.

Sulayiti Sulambaaya, another resident of Masaka suspects the public address systems could have been fake.  He claims that he was in court when the system was being tested but it failed to work.

He has asked judiciary to investigate why the public address system has failed to serve the purpose for which it was procured.

Mary Nabiryo, another resident wonders why court remains silent when taxpayer’s money was wasted. She says she looked at the micro phones with excitement but was surprised when they failed to work.

Nabiryo says most judges speak in a very low tone that makes it hard for them to hear and follow proceedings. Julia Lucy Acio, the Deputy Masaka High Court Registrar explains that they don’t have an expert to operate the public address system.

Acio denies allegations that the public address system is faulty. She warned our reporter against writing about the matter saying it is a minor issue.
