Doreen Faith is an emerging Ugandan-British fashion designer who has been working on her label – DARE, since August this year. She’s among the few designers who have been chosen by the Nile Diaspora International Film Festival committee to showcase her collection at the festival.

Her involvement in the event is to introduce her to the Ugandan audience as a designer and promote her women’s wear label – DARE which will be based online in the UK from 2013.

The Nile’s Diaspora International Film Festival is a not-for-profit cultural organization that seeks to change the way people see the world through film. The film festival promises to promote cultural and artistic significant films and arts through education and exhibition to enlighten and entertain people.

This event will be held in Kampala and different towns in Uganda between 7th and 15th December 2012. Nadia Buari of Ghana and Jim Iyke of Nigeria shall be given awards in different capacities.

Background

Born on 11th of November 1986 in Jinja, Uganda, she then moved to Kampala with her mother and siblings where she did her nursery and primary education from.

When she was 9 years old, she moved to the UK where she has settled and been living since then.

The 25 year old graduated with an Honours degree in Fashion Design & Marketing from London College of Fashion, one of the best and most recognised fashion institutions in the world.

Since graduating from university in 2010, she has been working as a Marketing Consultant for fashion designer Lena Santana providing marketing skills and business support to the brand to enable it set off the ground.

At present, she is working as a Freelance Marketing Assistant for Chelsea based fashion company, Eskandar and is setting up her fashion label during the days that she’s not freelancing.

Additionally, Doreen has a background in fashion industry and has worked in retail since she was 16 years old as a Sales Person for some of the most recognised organisations in fashion and beauty such as: Next, Calvin Klein, Nicole Farhi, House of Fraser, Avon cosmetics and Boots the Chemist.

Doreen reminisces that from an early age that she has always been immersed in fashion, which has influenced her to pursue higher education studies in fashion.

Her fascination with the technique behind the structure of dressmaking began whilst studying at university as a design student where she has developed a strong skill set for designing, pattern cutting and dress making techniques, all clearly visible in her artwork.

This ambitious and creative personality has enabled Doreen to keep working in the fashion industry and strongly believes that her creativity, entrepreneurial skills and experience would help her to build a successful career despite the fashion being one of the most competitive industries in the world.
