MPs Call For Prof. Ndiege’s Reinstatement
Members of parliament on the education committee meeting yesterday threw their weight behind sacked Kyambogo University Professor Isaiah Ndiege stating he should be reinstated as VC.
The lawmakers who were debating the probe report into the mismanagement of the university that led to its closure in September after a complaint from students, had initially refused to debate the report after it emerged the VC had been given his matching orders.
MPs who included Milton Muwuma (NRM), Merdad Bitekyerezo also (NRM) blamed the staff for fighting the vice chancellor on ethnic grounds. Ndiege is a Kenyan national.
Betty Amongi (Oyam South) noted that there was a high level of mismanagement at the institution and criticized the manner in which staff ganged up to get rid of the VC.
Ndiege was sacked by the university council in ‘public interest’ during a meeting on October 31 at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
Meanwhile, Prof. Isaiah Omolo Ndiege has since petitioned the High Court to quash the decision of the university council to relieve him from duty, claiming his dismissal was malicious.
Ndiege who is represented by Akile, Olok and Company Advocates in the application filed Tuesday, the professor reasons that his sacking was baseless since he had been cleared of any wrong doing by the committee investigating the institution’s mismanagement.
Professor Ndiege claims there is a personal vendetta against him by chairperson university council Prof. John Yakobo Okedi.
“In bad taste, the chairperson university council Prof. John Yakobo Okedi, had personal issues with the applicant(Ndiege), as he had issued through his lawyers notice of intention to sue over a story published in the media arising from alleged sale of university land,” Ndiege states.
A date for hearing of the case is yet to be fixed.
he should just quit because no smoke without fire, the mps should just let go of him since students have already been affected in what ever way.
Its a pity many people have been hoodwinked to believe Ndiege is being victimised because of being Kenyan and his fight against graft. This is a strategy that he and his small group have used and it seems to be working. If it is true he has fought corruption, where has that money he claims to have saved gone? KyU is still in a very sorry state.
