MILESTONE! M7 Clocks 10,000 Days In Power

Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni on Sunday joined an elite club of world leaders who have spent 10,000 days at the helm of power.
Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, and Jose Eduardo Dos Santos of Angola are Africa’s leaders who have reached the milestone.
President Museveni assumed office in January 1986 after a guerrilla war he led against former Presidents Milton Obote and Tito Okello Lutwa, both deceased captured power.
His reign in office has been marked by relative stability winning him praise from world leaders. In the nineties, then US President Bill Clinton listed the Ugandan leader among ‘the new breed of African leaders’.
He is also a force to reckon with in the region where his influence is second to none. A recent US government report notes that throughout 2012, “Uganda remained a strong force for regional stability, coordination, and counterterrorism efforts”.
Uganda sent troops to war ravaged Somalia, a mission that has seen extremist group Al-shabaab flushed out of the capital Mogadishu.
