Minister Musasizi warns UPE schools on charging fees

Henry Musasizi the State Minister for Finance has warned school headteachers in Government schools to refrain from charging fees as schools reopen.
“I am emphasizing the importance of adhering to government policies that provide free education in public schools, such as the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programs, am cautioning school head teachers against charging fees, stop burdening parents with additional financial obligations when sending their children to government schools”. Said Musasizi.
Musasizi said this on Sunday while addressing Christians of St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama during a church service.
He said he will suggest to government to increase the capitation grant in UPE schools but also called on parents to support their children to attain education .
He also noted that by ensuring education for all, government seeks to fight poverty among citizens.
“As government, we have put much effort in fighting poverty by introducing different government programs in order to boost household income. “says Musasizi.
Serununu Francis, the District Education Officer for Rubanda said that the habit of headteachers charging school fees in UPE Schools is very common.
He however said that as the office in charge, they are working hard in fight the vice in the district.
While preaching ,Rev. Moreen Mayanja cautioned the congregation to desist from false prophets whom she said have led to divisions among members of the public.
