A few days ago, the leadership of Ntungamo District in conjunction with area Member of Parliament for Rushenyi County launched about three drilling water projects in Rushenyi constituency.

Here, area leaders made a clarion call to residents: Kabasharira appealed to the locals and the contractors to desist from deals and corruption related issues during the construction of the projects that were launched.

She asked beneficiaries to inspect the projects themselves and to be on the lookout for shoddy works and corruption involved rather than waiting for leaders.

She urges the locals to report all the mistakes and malpractices that may be done by the contractors in each of the projects.

She also appealed to the residents who call themselves the rich or businessmen not to connive with the contractors in some deals of buying some materials like cement from the project to their individual or private projects or shops.

“I want to tell locals that these projects are not owned by only your leaders, they are your own projects for your benefits, if you let them to be mismanaged by the contractors you are the ones to lose most. Please be on ground and monitor how these projects are being handled. Do not wait for the leaders to come first, be the managers of these projects. Do not allow confusion between the business people and the contractors to sell off the materials. Please report such cases to your leaders and authorities to ensure we come out with well constructed water projects or any other project that is going to be constructed,” said MP Kabasharira.

In her capacity she was able to follow up on the long awaited District water projects which have finally been given to contractors. Among these include Kizinga Drilling water project in Kizinga Ngoma sub-county and was contracted to BIK WATER SYSTEMS LTD.

There is also Ruhara p/s tank, Ruhara primary school and Kabasheshe spring in Kayonza SubCounty both were contracted to His Mercy consult.

There was Kyamuhamya Drilling water project in Nyarwanya Rubaare Subcounty which was also contracted to BIK WATER SYSTEMS LTD and finally was  Kyafoora hot spring latrine in Kyafoora Rugarama North.

All these projects were launched on the same day last week by the District leadership led by Ntungamo District Chairman Sam Mucunguzi and the Office of the Area member of Parliament Kabasharira who was represented by her Personal Assistant.

During the launch, Mucunguzi also warned the contractors over shoddy work. That as authorities they will not commission any project that will not meet the standards according to the MOU between the District and the contractor.

He also appealed to the locals to protect the water project so that they can benefit from what government has brought to their communities.

One of the Locals, Ignitious Twesigye, a resident of Nywarwanya 2 praises the leadership of the Area MP Kabasharira and the District leadership for having solved the most challenge which the locals from those areas have been facing. Twesigye revealed that as the residents of Rwarwanya, they have been sharing water sources with the animals that would result in undesirable diseases.

According to Kabasharira, she has also  identified that the money that she lobbied as transitional fund worth shs400m, shs200m is already at the district pending availability of road equipment to start on the following roads; Rwamanyonyi- Kijubwe- Kabasheshe.

Then  Katungamo, Kyabirara, Kyempene, Kakaneena – Kyafoora.  She has also followed up on UNRA again and the following roads will be done as soon as possible and these include Rwashamaire-Rwahi which was given to the contractor and the work was supposed to  commence before this week ends.
