People of Lango region  may have to wait a little longer for the construction of Lira-Kamdini Road to resume due to delay of raw materials by Motaengil Africa that was contracted to work on the road.

Motorists with in Lango region have put Motaengil on spot to explain the delay. Some allege that government of Uganda released the money for the raw material long time ago. They are wondering what is causing the delay.

Lira-Kamdini Road

The road is in a poor state. It is comprised of deep and unending potholes filled with water that never runs dry even during dry season.

It is reported that World Bank released the funds for the 78KM Road worth 116 billion shillings and set stringent conditions on environmental and social impact studies.

For instance, one of the conditions required was approval of the environmental and social safeguard studies including the construction materials hence to prevent the road works from affecting the area and Ngetta Hill as the source of granite.

MOTAENGIL AFRICA was given the contract to work on the road for the 3 years carrying routine maintenance waiting for a certificate of compliance to Environmental and social safeguard requirements which are key for all world Bank funded projects.

In July, UNRA promised leaders from Lango during visits on the road that the ongoing forward maintenance of sections of the road would end in August while the actual construction work would begin in September this year.

It should recalled that Members of Parliament from Lango region and civil activists threatened to hold a planned demonstration over the non-motorable status of the road due to its delay.
