MP Mwongera Cautions Kabale Youth Against Alcohol, Drug Abuse And Early Sex

Kabale-Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera the Rubanda West County member of Parliament, has called upon students to desist from acts of alcoholism, drug abuse and early sex that will expose them to HIV/AIDS, but work  hard to be successful in future.

Kamuntu said that discipline plays a vital role in each student’s success appealing to them to uphold it adding that it will be their number one qualification in their future time saying that he managed to make it due to discipline and hard work saying that him as a hustler it was discipline and hard work that has made his to get there he is as he wore his first pair of shoes when he came to study in  Kabale town from his village in Muko Rubanda  district.

“Me a street hustler I was not the best performer I was just a mediocre  but only survived on two things hard work and discipline if you are not disciplined dot waste your time  I urged school going learners to exercise high level of discipline if they what to excel at their schools as well as do well in future me I wore my first pair of shoes when I was admitted in St Maria Goretti but due to hard work and discipline I had to excel,” Kamuntu said.

Kamuntu said this on Saturday while speaking as the Chief Guest during the celebrations to mark the feast day of St. Maria Goretti, a young virgin and martyr whose life is an example of purity and mercy for all Christians, held at Maria Goretti Secondary School, Rushoroza playground in Kabale municipality.

He asked the school to maintain its good image through continuous promotion of good values such as discipline, hard work and honesty, noting that the school has influential alumni serving the country and students should emulate them.

The Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira, who was represented by the Parish priest of Christ the King Church Kabale, Rev. Fr. Fred Birungi criticized irresponsible parents and asked them to start carrying out their responsibilities of inculcating good moral values in their children and not shift the roles to teachers.

Preaching on the same occasion, the parish priest Christ the King Catholic Church Rev Fr Fred Birungi Continued to ask the learners to follow St Maria Goretti’s way of life in order to have a holy kind of living saying that St. Maria Goretti’s story provides lessons about faith, purity, and forgiveness

The Head teacher St Maria Goretti Primary School Sister Martina Lobur asked the learners to emulate a good example of ST Maria Goretti especially discipline amongst the women and the girl child.

St Maria Goretti was one of the youngest Churches canonized saints on 6th July 1902 following her murder in 1890 after being stabbed by a neighbor who tried to rape her. The Church with the supervision of Kabale Diocese supported the establishment of St Maria Goretti at Rushoroza hill in Kabale District in 1989.
