MUHOOZI BOMBS AMONG! PLU Dumps Speaker, Tayebwa in Shock Power Reversal as Cosmetic CEC Endorsement Goes Up in Flames

The fight for control of Uganda’s 12th Parliament has exploded into full-blown political warfare after the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), the powerful movement chaired by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, dramatically withdrew its endorsement of Speaker Anita Annet Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa in a stunning political twist that has shaken the nation.
In a bombshell statement dated May 12, 2026 and signed by PLU Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, the movement announced that its earlier backing of Among and Tayebwa had been cancelled with immediate effect following guidance from Gen. Muhoozi himself.
“That the endorsement of Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the 12th Parliament of Uganda via a letter dated 11th March, 2026 is retracted and withdrawn with immediate effect,” the statement declared.
Just like that, what had looked like a smooth ride back to the top seats of Parliament for Among and Tayebwa suddenly turned into a brutal political survival battle.
The PLU statement further instructed all MPs-elect aligned to the movement to instead rally behind whichever candidates will eventually be presented by President Yoweri Museveni.
“That the leadership of the Patriotic League of Uganda encourages its Hon. Members Elect to support the candidates that will be presented to them by H.E the President for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker,” the statement added.
The dramatic reversal only confirmed what political insiders had already begun whispering throughout Sunday after Muhoozi unleashed a series of cryptic but increasingly hostile posts on X distancing himself from the earlier endorsement.
“We have another candidate…call him/her the PLU candidate,” Muhoozi posted, immediately sending Kampala’s political corridors into panic mode and fuelling speculation that the powerful First Son had finally turned against Among.
But he did not stop there.

In another explosive post, Muhoozi openly dismissed the authority of the NRM Central Executive Committee.
“PLU supports whatever position President Museveni takes and we do not listen to NRM’s CEC,” he wrote before escalating the attack even further.
“NRM CEC decisions that are against the will of the Chairman are null and void.”
The message was loud. The message was brutal. And the message sent shockwaves through the ruling National Resistance Movement.
For weeks, Among and Tayebwa had appeared untouchable.
Their camp had confidently celebrated after the NRM Central Executive Committee reportedly recommended maintaining them as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively in the 12th Parliament.
Supporters argued continuity was important and pointed to former parliamentary giants like Rebecca Kadaga and Edward Ssekandi who served lengthy terms in parliamentary leadership.
Inside Parliament, many MPs had already begun treating the race as effectively settled.
Then President Museveni changed everything.
During the NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi, Museveni reportedly told members that the issue of Speaker and Deputy Speaker would be discussed “at the right time.”
That single sentence instantly reset the political board.
The mood inside NRM changed overnight.
Suddenly, Among’s once-solid grip on the Speakership no longer looked secure.
Then came the Rolls Royce storm.
Public anger intensified after reports emerged that Among had acquired a luxury Rolls Royce reportedly worth around Shs3.4 billion imported from Britain.
Although she reportedly explained that the vehicle was a gift, the revelation triggered a social media firestorm and revived public anger over corruption, lavish lifestyles and excessive spending among top parliamentary figures.
Muhoozi appeared to directly target the controversy in one of his most viral posts yet.
“I have been Mzee’s son for 52 years but I have never sat in a rolls royce ever. I don’t think Mzee has sat in one either.”
The statement instantly exploded online, with many interpreting it as a direct political missile aimed at Among.
Then came another even harder punch.
“Our job is to SERVE Ugandans not ourselves! I cannot support corruption! I risked my life to make this country peaceful. Now that it is, it will not be taken by thieves. Never!”
That statement sent political temperatures soaring even higher.
Even at Tuesday’s Museveni swearing in ceremony, she reportedly donned an Oscar de la Renta dress reportedly valued at $8,679, about Shs 32.6 million, while appearing at President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Now insiders say the entire Speakership contest has effectively been thrown back into chaos.
The abrupt withdrawal of PLU support is being viewed as a major political humiliation for Among and a warning that powerful forces inside the state may no longer be fully behind her.

It has also unexpectedly complicated matters for Tayebwa, who until now had largely been seen as one of the safest figures in the race.
Political observers say attention has now shifted entirely to State House and the eventual position President Museveni will take.
Others believe compromise candidates acceptable to both the political establishment and the security power centres could suddenly emerge from nowhere.
Meanwhile, inside NRM circles, panic, lobbying and secret meetings are reportedly intensifying as MPs scramble to read the shifting winds.
What had looked like a routine endorsement process has now become one of the fiercest parliamentary power struggles Uganda has seen in years.
And with Muhoozi openly flexing political muscle, CEC authority being publicly challenged, and Museveni still keeping everyone guessing, the race for Speaker and Deputy Speaker has suddenly turned into a dangerous political chess game where nobody appears safe anymore.
