Muntu, Mafabi Face Off Today In Debate

Lead contenders in the FDC Race, Muntu and Mafabi

The FDC party seems to have adopted American way of politics after the chairman Electoral Commission, Dan Mugarura, announced that the three presidential contestants, Gen Mugisha Muntu, Leader of Opposition Nandala Mafabi and their page-boy Geoffrey Ekanya will face off in what is expected to be a heated debate.

The FDC presidential contenders will face off in a live TV debate at 3pm at WBS Theatre hall in Naguru, Kampala.

“The debate will take place at WBS hall. The hall only accommodates 250 people and it will be live. The candidates will talk about issues external and internal, what they will do for the party when elected as president,” Mugarura revealed to us last night. But he said that it was a very hard task for him to convince the candidates to appear on the debate, as they said that they will be busy.

“Some candidates had at first expressed no interest saying that they had a lot of things to do, and some were still campaigning,” he said. But when asked who had turned down the invitation, he declined mentioning names but when the party announced the debate, Gen. Muntu’s aide Francis Mwijukye told a local newspaper their camp was not aware and therefore wouldn’t participate.

The head of Mafabi’s taskforce Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga last week told Red Pepper that they would only be part of the debate if they were informed on the ‘focus’ of the debate. But later Mr. Mafabi confirmed to this reporter that he accepted to attend the debate.

To the nation, the battle of verbal missile will be between the two rivals, Muntu and Mafabi. The debate also will unveil who exactly among the three can articulate issues rather than engaging in a ‘hullabaloo’ thus confusing the public.

For political observers, the two rivals will duel at the debate which will expose the ‘true leader’ as the three candidates have been telling the public that they are true leaders during their trip across the country while canvassing support.

Mafabi to Host Another Rally in Kampala
Meanwhile Nandala Mafabi has laid a strategic move of wooing all the delegates ahead of voting day on Thursday. Impeccable sources in Mafabi Camp told us last night that Mafabi will host a rally in Kireka Rehabilitation Centre in his colleague’s Semujju Nganda’s constituency.

Sources say this clandestine plot is hatched to woo all delegates to vote for him, as the voting venue Nambole stadium is just few metres from Kireka.

A source said that Mafabi saw it crucial to have this last rally where he will use the chance to beg delegates to vote and even change the ‘undecided’. Mafabi has invited all delegates to this rally across the country like what he did recently at his upcountry home in Mbale.

  1. Gen Muntu, God bless u so much in this race because ur the right person to lead this country after President Museveni. We ar all praying for u.

    1. My Personal Observation

      – Both Mugisha & Nanadala have good leadership qualities.

      On corruption

      – Mugisha has many Colleagues in government whom he, as any human being is, will sympathise with once he comes onto power. That’s why NRM supports his candidature.

      – Nanadala can deal well on corruption, given the good performance in the PAC in the previous parliament.

      Regional Influence

      – Northern, Eastern Uganda & some Central will support Nanadala since Muntu is also dorm the West. There’s a fear that it makes no change giving another Westerner.

      I will say more later.

      Thanks

  5. May the Almighty Living GOD enable Gen.Muntu to go through and become the next president of Uganda.Personally am not an FDC supporter but i love him due to his gentle nature and leadership qualities. He even has the capacity to scoop support from the west including in the “hard to reach areas”He could even not express the spirit of revenge as some of his colleagues in FDC always allege.
    Bravo Gen.
