M7 Joins Family To Prepare For Dad’s Burial
President Yoweri Museveni has joined other family members at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district, to prepare for the burial of his father, Mzee Amos Kaguta.
Kaguta, 96, died on Friday morning at International Hospital Kampala, where he was admitted a week ago.
Linda NabusayiWamboka, the deputy presidential press secretary said in a statement that the family was thankful to the medical team that attended to and cared for Mzee Kaguta. The date for burial has however not yet been announced.
They however called for privacy as they “celebrate the life of Mzee Kaguta”, the man who endured lengthy periods without seeing his sons, Salim Saleh and Museveni, as they were involved in various wars against dictatorship in Uganda.
In President Museveni’s 1997 book, Sowing the Mustard Seed, he talks about the struggle his parents, Mzee Amos and Esteeri Kokundeka, went through to raise their children. He talks about their conversion and embracing Christianity in the 1940s. The president also talks about his upbringing in the present day Ntungamo and Mbarara districts, where cattle-keeping was the main source of livelihood.
Museveni describes his father as a kind person but that he would occasionally drink local brew and become violent.
President Museveni’s mother, Esteeri, died in November 2001.
