Northern Should Forget About Having President – Elwelu

By Milton Emmy Akwam

Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu, the Commander Land Forces has openly told the people of Northern Uganda to forget about having another President from their region after ‘giving up’ while in power.

“Acholi people wasted 20 years that they wanted government. They went to the bush after failing to protect their government of then President Tito Okello Lutwa,” he said.

“We should work with any peace loving person or government to contain the peace we have today. No president will come from this region,” he added.

According to the Army Boss, it was one reason UPDF chased Kony and his LRA rebels to South Sudan and other countries because peace was paramount.

The Army Boss made the ‘shocking statement’ on Tuesday at 5th Division Headquarters in Achol Pii, Pader district.

Elwelu was the Chief Guest at the handover ceremony to the new 5th Division Commander, Brigadier Michael Kabango who succeeded Brigadier Sam Kavuma.

Brig. Sam Kavuma is the new Deputy Air forces Commander.

He warned RDCs and soldiers who will try to sabotage the popular slogan of Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo that he or she would be sacked and sent to rot in the village.

The no nonsense Elwelu is popularly known for commanding the force that left Rwenzururu Kingdom down and arrested Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere.
