PANIC @ BUSHENYI DISTRICT As Big Shots Face Arrest Over Dirty Job Deals

Fear and tension have gripped Bushenyi District after anti-corruption operatives stormed the area, triggering a chain of arrests and exposing a shocking scandal in the district’s top leadership.

Operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit have reportedly pitched camp in the district, launching investigations into alleged corruption in the appointment of the District Service Commission.

The probe has already claimed its first victims.

Two suspects—Richard Nkyeire, a director of a transport company, and Dan Taritweba, a Principal Assistant Secretary—were dramatically arrested in the night of Wednesday as investigators tightened the noose around those linked to the controversial process.

The unit’s spokesperson, Mariam Natasha, confirmed the arrests, warning that the investigation is still unfolding.

“Just wait! We are likely to see big shots in the district being arrested,” a source revealed, hinting at bigger names yet to fall.

At the center of the storm is the controversial appointment of Denning Barahuka as District Service Commission chairperson—a decision that has sharply divided district leaders.

Drama escalated after a leaked audio recording surfaced, allegedly capturing Denning in a phone conversation celebrating his appointment and promising to “look for the balance” to pay those who helped push his deal through. Red Pepper has not independently verified the recording to ascertain if it is not manipulated.

The explosive recording, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage among residents and civil society groups, raising serious questions about the integrity of the entire process.

Despite the uproar, the district council stood its ground and forwarded Denning’s name for approval. However, the process has since hit a brick wall after the Public Service Commission demanded explanations following a petition from the Western Ankole Civil Society Forum.

The controversy is further complicated by claims that Dan Taritweba illegally acted as secretary to the District Executive Committee without proper authorization from the Chief Administrative Officer.

“For Taritweba, it’s technical. We are seeking for guidance and interpretation of guidelines/standing orders,” a source disclosed.

Meanwhile, outgoing district chairperson Jaffari Bassajjabalaba—who is set to exit office in May 2026—had fronted Denning to replace Scholastica Ndyagambaki, whose term had expired.

Denning is a former secondary school teacher and currently runs Bumbeire secondary school as the Director.

With a new district boss, Prosper Twebaze, waiting in the wings, the scandal threatens to explode into a full-blown political crisis.
