The committee was scrutinizing the Auditor-General’s report of 2014/2015 which revealed that the Shs623m that was given to Hirji was not documented anywhere.

However, the city businessman Hirji says the money was used to buy a transformer and he has all the necessary documents.

He shocked legislators when he revealed that the money given to him was a gift from the president and that what he decided to buy out of that money is personal thus no need of government documents.

The commit Chairperson Abdul Katuntu insisted that; “for any money whether it is a gift or grant from the public coffers, we shall follow it up to the detail.”

Karim Hirji has been given till Thursday this week to present documents which indicates that the money given to him was a gift from the president.
