PASSPORT POWER! Uganda Ranks 5th Globally For Open Doors
Uganda has been ranked fifth among 199 countries for how easily foreign passport holders can enter the country, even as the Ugandan passport itself ranks 129th globally with a mobility score of 70 in 2026.
According to Passport Reports, Uganda’s strong inbound travel openness contrasts sharply with the more limited international access enjoyed by holders of the Ugandan passport.
The report ranks Uganda 5th globally on its welcoming-country measure, which assesses how easily foreign passport holders can enter a country.
On the other hand, the Ugandan passport ranks 129th globally, giving holders easier access to 70 destinations out of those assessed.
The 70 destinations comprise 35 visa-free countries, 30 offering visa-on-arrival or other simplified entry arrangements, and five accessible through electronic travel authorisation.
A further 128 destinations require Ugandan travellers to obtain a visa before travelling.
Across Africa, Uganda ranks 18th out of 54 passports, with easier access to 64.2% of destinations on the continent.
The report records 16 African destinations as visa-free for Ugandan passport holders, 15 offering visa-on-arrival or simplified access, and three requiring electronic travel authorisation.
The Caribbean is Uganda’s strongest major regional access zone, with an 81.3% easier-access rate.
Access falls to 52.2% in North America, 50% in Oceania, 28% in Asia and 25% in South America.
Europe remains the toughest region for Ugandan travellers, with all 47 destinations listed as requiring visas.
The same applies to the six Gulf countries, five Central Asian destinations and 17 Middle Eastern destinations covered by the report.
Among the destinations offering visa-free access to Ugandans are Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Outside Africa, the list includes destinations such as Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Fiji, the Philippines and Malaysia, although individual entry periods and conditions vary.
The report also shows that Uganda’s passport mobility has slipped from recent highs.
Uganda’s mobility score stood at 74 in both 2024 and 2025, before falling to 70 in 2026.
Its global passport ranking also dropped from 119th in 2025 to 129th in 2026.
