TOORO ROYAL FAMILY HIT AGAIN! King Oyo’s Fierce Rival Prince Kijanangoma Dies At 47 Of Cancer

Tooro’s royal family has been hit by another devastating loss following the death of Prince David Kijanangoma Araali at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Mulago, where he had been receiving treatment for throat cancer.
Kijanangoma, 47, died on Tuesday after battling Stage Three throat cancer for more than a year. His death was confirmed by Vincent Mugume, the Tooro Kingdom spokesperson.
The prince’s death comes just days after Tooro buried King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV at the Karambi Royal Tombs, plunging the kingdom into fresh mourning at a time when it is already grappling with a major succession dispute.
Kijanangoma had been receiving chemotherapy at Nakasero Hospital and the Uganda Cancer Institute in Mulago after his condition deteriorated.
In April, his family appealed for financial assistance, saying about Shs700 million was needed to facilitate specialised treatment in India.
But despite the efforts to save his life, the prince succumbed to the disease at Mulago.
Kijanangoma was an elder brother of Prince Edward Kijanangoma Amooti, who was recently named the new Omukama of Tooro following the death of King Oyo.
His death therefore comes at a particularly sensitive moment for the kingdom, with questions surrounding the succession still generating debate within the Tooro royal establishment.
Kijanangoma himself was no stranger to controversy.
In 2015, he openly challenged the leadership of the then young King Oyo, accusing the monarch of failing to properly execute his responsibilities.
The confrontation escalated when Kijanangoma declared himself king, putting him at odds with the established royal leadership and making him one of the most prominent figures to openly challenge Oyo’s reign.
The late prince was a grandson of former Tooro King Omukama Sir George David Rukidi III and a cousin of King Oyo.
His family has also endured another major tragedy.
His brother, Prince Charles Happy Kijanangoma, was killed in Fort Portal in 1999.
Kijanangoma’s death now adds another chapter of grief to a royal family that has suffered a series of losses and upheavals, with his passing coming almost immediately after the kingdom laid King Oyo to rest.
Details of his burial arrangements and the official funeral programme are expected to be communicated by the family and Tooro Kingdom authorities.
