PHOTOS: M7 Hosts Golden Kiprotich
Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni on Friday afternoon hosted the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2013 marathon winner Stephen Kiprotich to a sumptuous luncheon at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district, western Uganda.
Kiprotich who is also Assistant Superitendant of Prisons won a gold medal in last weekend’s 42km marathon at the IAAF World Championship held in the Russian capital Moscow.
He won the medal last Saturday in 2 hours 09 minutes and 1 second.
It was Kiptrotich’s second gold in less than two years following his record breaking win in the 2012 London Olympics men’s marathon where he bagged a gold medal, the country’s first in four decades.
Besides winning a gold medal, Kiprotich also pocketed a cool Shs150m as prize money.
Kiprotich also proved to the world that he didn’t fluke a Gold medal in the 2012 London Olympic Marathon after bagging another medal at a World event in Moscow on Saturday afternoon.

Of course the whole nation rejoices at what Kip has achieved for the Uganda. But I recall that John Akii-Bua who won a gold medal got goodies from President Idi Amin Dada including a brand new peugeot 504 (it was the trendy car then in the 1970s) and a house. Years later, I was shocked to learn that he died an impoverished man. The best thing that Kip needs now is a a finance/investment advisor for the resources that are pouring in for him. He wont be winning gold medals 20 years to come and it will be the investment decisions madetoday that will determine whether he dies a pauper blaming governement or lives in relative comfort having retired from the track suit.
Yes, 2020 year may not be honey for our man, as you very well know that old age is our most enemy, to day is 24years, by 2020 he will be around 30years, if he meets a man of 24years of the same speed he run on today, he will not manage him, so let him plan now and invest, good enough the government has help him construct for his parents, has got a car, and will get a house, he can plan to day with that money he has and stand a generation of happiness.
