Police Blocks Besigye from Going to Court

The Police have blocked FDC’s Dr. Kizza Besigye from leaving his home in Kasangati for Kampala High Court where he is facing treason charges.
The former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate was expected in court at 9:00am today Monday to continue with the hearing of the case.
The trial was adjourned early this month on prosecution’s requests that investigations were still ongoing.
According to the Makerere Councilor, Doreen Nyanjura, police officers who are manning 24 hours surveillance on Besigye’s home, stopped the latter immediately his vehicle got out of the gate.
“The police cowards blocked the ‘president’ from heading to court. They refused to remove the tyre cutters barricading the way out of home,” Ms Nyanjura said.
However, police have distanced themselves from restricting Besigye’s movements, saying it’s Besigye who declined to tell them where he was going.
“Our officers haven’t stopped but only asked Besigye where he was going and he decided to return to his house,” said Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Emilian Kayima.
“It was his choice not to go court.” He added.
