Kayunga – President Yoweri Museveni on Friday warned land grabbers in Kayunga District and urged residents to embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) as a pathway to wealth creation and job growth.

Speaking at a rally in the district, Museveni said land grabbing was illegal and often fueled by ignorance of the law, stressing that sitting tenants should not be chased off land. He reminded the public that land issues were clearly addressed during the Constituent Assembly and that tenants’ rights are protected by law.

“You have no right to evict sitting tenants from land,” Museveni said, adding that those involved in such practices were misleading the public. He called on NRM leaders to educate communities about land rights and help resolve disputes peacefully.

The President also cautioned people against buying land that is already occupied by tenants, noting that selling such land without resolving tenancy issues amounted to selling “hot air.” He revealed that government had already compensated some landlords and would continue doing so to ensure tenants remain secure on their land.

Museveni further announced plans to establish an industrial park in Kayunga, provided sufficient land is made available, saying this would boost industrialization and create jobs for the local population.

On economic empowerment, the President urged residents to fully utilize the Parish Development Model, under which each parish receives Shs100 million annually. He said the funding would total Shs500 million per parish over five years and should be used to improve household incomes through agriculture and other income-generating activities.

He also highlighted government investments in health infrastructure, while expressing concern over theft of drugs from public health facilities, which he said undermines service delivery.

Museveni reminded wananchi that power ultimately lies with the people through voting, urging them to elect leaders who support development and accountability.

First Lady Janet Museveni thanked residents for turning up in large numbers and encouraged them to actively participate in the upcoming elections. She urged voters to mobilize family members, including the elderly, to ensure they cast their ballots.

“Don’t forget your grandmother at home—she has a vote too,” she said. “Each one of us has a vote. Together, we are building a great homeland for ourselves and our children.” Alhaji Moses Kigongo, First National Vice Chairperson, followed with his own message of unity and discipline. He urged the people of Kayunga to vote for NRM from top to bottom, stressing the importance of sticking with the party. “Only tick the bus symbol,” he advised, referring to the NRM party symbol.

Kigongo also urged voters to remain calm and avoid being provoked by opposition groups. “Those others may try to provoke you, but leave them aside,” he said. “After voting, your neighbor will remain your neighbor. Be disciplined, and remember, unity is key.”

He further appealed to party leaders to be honest and transparent. “Do not use our soldiers to fight your wars,” Kigongo warned. “Even the soldiers used will be prosecuted along with those who misuse them.”

He concluded by reminding the crowd of the importance of unity and peace, saying, “Let us stay united and love each other.”

Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among also addressed the rally, crediting the NRM government for key infrastructure projects in the area such as Isimba Dam and Sezibwa Bridge. She cautioned against political double-dealing and urged residents to remain loyal to the party.

The rally concluded with calls for unity, discipline, and continued support for NRM, with leaders emphasizing peace, stability, and economic transformation as key priorities for the country.
