The students of Soroti University, a government owned institution in Eastern Uganda were involved on Wednesday running battles with police.

The students were protesting against the University’s retake policy and welfare. The students were blocked from accessing the city centre of Soroti city to express their hornyness.

East Kyoga Police spokesperson, SP Ageca Gregg confirmed the arrest of the guild president, guild speaker and students.

Abongoto, Jacob Eperu, the Guild Speaker, Aida Atwisucire, the Guild Prime Minister, and a medical student known as Rukiya Rayan were arrested following the demonstration by the medical students over the alleged mismanagement of academic affairs. The angry students were challenging the university’s grading policy and the extension of academic programs.

Abdurrahman Ssekabira, the Guild Minister in charge of internal and foreign relations says the students resorted to strike after failing to get an audience from the university management.   The students claim they are being undermarked, leading to retakes. They also want the Dean of Health Sciences, Professor Fred Kirya to resign.
