Ssekitoleko drags Akol to court over defamation

Nakifuma county MP Kafeero Ssekitoleko has dragged Kilak North MP Anthony Akol to court, accusing him of defamation.

Akol last month alleged that Ssekitoleko, the mover of the controversial age limit bill bribed some MPs with 50kgs of sugar and Shs1m to support his bill.

In a media engagement recently, Ssekitoleko said that those were baseless allegations made against him, saying he was not part of the delegation that took the tour and accused Akol of trying to tarnish his name.

As such, he issued Akol with an ultimatum of 48 hours to publicly withdrawal his statements or face legal action.

However, Ssekitoleko noted that he received information from Akol himself that he had no intention whatsoever of apologizing to him and that is why he has gone ahead with his decision.

The bill last evening faced indefinite suspension from the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga.
