Students To Miss O-Level Exams Over Stolen Registration Fees
The students claim that they paid Ugx 180,000 each instead of Ugx 70,000 as required by the Uganda national examinations board early this year. They were however shocked to be dropped at Town view secondary school in Iganga by the school director and later abandoned there on Friday, the official briefing day for candidates.
The school director, Ephraim Kalimu who transported the 14 students in a taxi reportedly fled away after dropping them at the entrance for the briefing.
The students who have currently pitched camp at Iganga central police station said they have tried to raise their director on his mobile phone but has since been switched off.
According to one of the students, Emmanuel Walwasa, they were informed by management of Town view secondary school that their names did not appear on the list of students to sit for the final exams
Walwasa said the management of Town view secondary school later chased them away from the school compound claiming they were causing chaos and disorienting their colleagues who were preparing for the exams.
“They later advised us to come to Iganga central police station and present our issue” he said.
The students are now demanding for the search, arrest and prosecution of the school authorities
The CID officer at Iganga central police station, Mathew Otuu said the school bursar identified as Fred Babi has been arrested help in investigations. Otuu cautioned parents against enrolling their children to schools they are not certain of background.
